2021 Uni of Sydney Branch Elections

Voting is open for the current NTEU branch elections. Your vote will shape the future of our union branch.

It’s really important that you vote to ensure that the branch leadership reflects the views of members. This is a critical time for the branch as we move into enterprise bargaining. 

 

You should have received your ballot papers from the AEC for these elections, (at home or work address, whichever you specified for union membership). 

 

We are writing with a personal message about your vote. Our How to Vote recommendations are listed below. 

 

We already have some excellent colleagues in the Branch leadership elected unopposed:  

• President Patrick Brownlee 
• Vice President (Professional staff) Jen Harrison (ongoing) 
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rep Leah Lui-Chivizhe (ongoing)
• Secretary Fiona Gill

Other positions are in contested elections – including Academic Vice President, ordinary members of the Branch Committee, and the Casual Staff Representative. These positions are critical in setting the direction and priorities of the branch. We’re lucky to have plenty of great candidates to choose from!

 

We’ve been in the thick of it for a few years – Kurt as Branch President from 2016-2021 and Linda as Academic Vice President from 2018-2021. We think it’s really important to elect effective reps who will listen, respect and represent the diversity of members across the whole university, without pushing political agendas from partisan organisations. We’ve seen how this can create conflict in the branch committee, and undermine working together towards common goals. 

 

We want to see the best candidates elected - here are our recommendations about how to vote. 

For Branch Vice President (Academic), vote for Maryanne Large.

Maryanne Large as Vice President (Academic staff) –  a colleague in Physics who is also elected staff rep on Senate, where she’s been really effective in representing staff interests.  

 

For Branch Committee, vote in the following numbered order for:
